Case Study- Josh

Josh is 3 years old and he has 2 younger siblings aged 4 and 5. Kelly, his mum appears to have difficulties with anxiety and depression and sometimes struggles to meet the children’s needs.

They are often late for nursery, hygiene has been an issue and Mum has expressed that they have some financial difficulties. They have also been occasions where the nursery staff have reported smelling alcohol on her breath.

Over the weekend the police were called to a domestic incident at the home. Her partner has a history of domestic abuse, the children were in bed and seem to have slept through the incident.

All 3 children have witnessed domestic abuse from Kelly’s previous partner. Kelly told you about what had happened and when you asked about the children she seemed dismissive insisting that the children knew nothing about it.
