Signs of Safety is an approach to safeguarding and child protection that was first developed in Australia, but is now used worldwide. This approach has been adopted and is now used across Leicester city, Leicestershire and Rutland.
The approach seeks to work with parents to identify strengths and family resources and networks that can help the family overcome their challenges. It builds on strengths to address areas of concern or need and also involves clear and straightforward communication with the family. It seeks to ensure that then family understand not only what we are concerned about but also why it matters, the impact that it is having on the child, what needs to change and how they will be supported to make the necessary changes.
