Our role in identifying and responding to abuse

Our day to day tasks:

  • Be vigilant
  • Record and report concerns to our DSL
  • Building a picture
  • Analysis of information: “what is life like for this child?”

Where we have concerns:

  • We do NOT investigate abuse
  • Recognising and identifying
  • Proof and evidence
  • Reasonable grounds to believe the child may be experiencing abuse
  • Requesting an investigation

Investigating and clarifying questions

  • We need clarity
    • What is a clarifying question?
  • We do not:
    • Ask about anything the child has not mentioned
    • Ask any leading questions
    • Keep on asking when we have enough information
